Victory Over Depression - Catherine Johns

In this powerful episode, Catherine Johns joins us as she candidly opens up and shares her powerful testimony!

Catherine was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. At the age of 3, Catherine and her two brothers were taken from their biological mother.  They were separated and placed in foster care.

After a short time in foster care, and by the grace of God, Catherine grandmother’s cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Johns, took them into their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Johns eventually adopted Catherine and her siblings. The Johns’ home that Catherine grew up in was very loving and stable.

Although Catherine does not recall all the traumatic events that happened to her as a child, nevertheless, she does remember she had fears of not getting enough food to eat.  She would hide food under her bed.   She also remembers that at the age of 7, she did not trust men.

Catherine’s family attended church regularly. She got saved and baptized, at the age of 10.

Catherine served as a praise dancer, sang in the youth and adult choirs, and attended Sunday school and Bible study.

During Catherine’s junior and high school years, she was attracted to older guys and started exploring sex.

Later, as a junior in high school, she met a young man in church.  He was a sophomore in college, at Prairie View A & M University.  She got serious about him and fell in love. They began a long-distance relationship.  She later noticed he had anger issues and became verbally and emotionally abusive.

Instead of taking heed and exiting the relationship, Catherine applies for college at Prairie View A & M, to be with him.

The relationship takes a major turn. Things begin to spiral downwards into a cycle of depression.

How do you navigate, as a freshman in college, through the pain, deep emotional hurt, and trauma of a breakup?

Are you crying a lot more and a lot longer than you should after a breakup?

When do you realize that depression has set in?

What do you do when the enemy brings suicidal thoughts to your mind, and you envision your own funeral?

Catherine is here to share her beautiful testimony!

Thank you, Catherine.
